Q: What is a tilde community?
A: Tilde communities are pubnixes, public access unix systems. We took our inspiration
from older such servers like tilde.club
and the tildes from tildeverse.org.
Put simply, a pubnix is a public server that is being shared by a number of people, that
use it simply for fun, or for purpose.
Q: Why would I join a tilde community?
A: Good question! Ultimately that depends on you. Do you like
doing computer stuff? Do you like bonding with people over computers? Or do you
just like having a little space on the web to do stuff? Then you might like it.
Q: Is Subcon Town open for new users?
A: Yes, but keep in mind we're an invite-only community. You can always ask
for an invite, and we don't mind giving people a chance, but we do like to run a tight ship.
Q: Are there more open and public tilde communities?
A: Yes, many of the tilde communities we took inspiration from are open to new
users. For example, tilde.club or some of the
communities on tildeverse.org will readily
accept new members. Some communities are themed around a subject, so you might find one that fits you.
Q: Can I get an account on one of your services?
A: Only as an existing member. If you're already a member, ask
@fristi for an account.
